The rich and eventful history of the Victoria Fire Department has been well chronicled over the last 163 years. Documented from it’s humble begins as a volunteer Fire Department created out of necessity to service the Fort of Victoria, the great gold rush of the 1850’s and the ensuing influx of residents, to the professional modern day Fire Department of the Capital of BC. Today we stand as a 110 member strong organization providing many specialized services to the residents of Victoria.
Created in the early 1990s, as a component of the VICTORIA FIRE DEPARMENT to preserve the more than 160 year history of the Victoria Fire Department, the Victoria Fire Department Historical Society is run by mostly retired VICTORIA FIRE FIREFIGHTERS. These amazing former Local 730 Members, meticulously catalogue, organize and archive the culture and heritage for the Victoria Fire Department. Not only curating the rich history of images, documents and equipment, but they also painstakingly restore numerous apparatuses from decades and centuries long ago.
