WorkSafe Advocacy Course- Vancouver B.C.

Brothers and Sisters,

I'm happy to report that brother Humber and I had the opportunity earlier this month to travel to Vancouver for a workshop put on by the BCPFFA. It was very informative and well represented from several locals throughout the province. It was a two-day workshop that spoke extensively to the benefits of liaising with the Workers Advisory Office (WAO).

The workshop gave us several insights into moving forward with WorkSafe claims and introduced us to the benefits and resources that we have in the WAO. It is a no cost organization that essentially assists employees and unions with not only dealing with WorkSafe but advises them on relationships with the employer and the best way to come to successful conclusions regarding claims.

During the two days we touched on everything from claims regarding physical and mental disorders, long term disability and vocational rehabilitation, we were introduced to concepts of legal policy and practice plus the framework of WorkSafe claims. We engaged in discussions with other locals and were encouraged to ask questions and openly engaged with presenters.

I believe it was a fantastic opportunity to increase our awareness surrounding advocacy for local 730 members and the contacts we received will assist in the future moving forward with work safe claims. I'd be more than happy to discuss the ways this office and our newfound familiarity with it can benefit members. Please don't hesitate to touch base or give me a call with questions or concerns.

I’d like to thank local 730 for the opportunity to increase our scope.

Steve.
